Highlights

New Sourcegraph changelog

Say hello to the brand new Sourcegraph changelog.

We've built a new changelog to better highlight all the changes that will be coming in this new era of Sourcegraph. We are doubling down on the future of code understanding, and are ready to hit the ground running this year with exciting new improvements and features.

In the new Featured feed, you can find updates for our biggest changes in the form of standalone posts. In this feed, every Sourcegraph release - for example, Sourcegraph 6.12 - will get its own dedicated page that compiles all the changes from the release as well as all of its subsequent patches. Each release page will indicate the major updates included in the release, as well as a Details section with smaller improvements, fixes, and notes on deprecations.

For a more granular breakdown, the new Releases feed lists every release and patch going back to Sourcegraph 5.7 (October 2024). For older releases, see the legacy technical changelog.

Starting in February 2026, this new changelog will become a key part of how we keep our customers up to date with what is changing when we start providing weekly updates to our Sourcegraph Cloud customers.

Deep Search sidebar

Interact with Deep Search while browsing code.

You can now ask Deep Search questions directly from code navigation. Code you select in the blob view is automatically added as context to your conversation.

To open the sidebar, click on the Deep Search icon at the top of the blob view.

All conversations are accessible from the main Deep Search page, too. To open your conversation in full view, click the link icon next to the Deep Search heading. To access past conversations, open the history panel.

Deep Search in Slack

Ask questions about your codebase directly in Slack with the Sourcegraph Slack integration.

The Sourcegraph Slack integration is now available. When you mention @Sourcegraph in Slack discussions, a Deep Search conversation will be initiated directly in the Slack thread. You can also ask follow-up questions as the discussion goes on.

Additionally, with the Sourcegraph Slack integration, Deep Search links now unfurl with rich context in Slack - allowing users to view information about the Deep Search conversation without needing to leave Slack.

To use the Sourcegraph Slack integration, go to Administration → Slack integration and connect the Slack integration to your workspace. Learn more in our docs.

Frictionless MCP server setup

The Sourcegraph MCP server, and our new Deep Search tools, can now be connected via OAuth to your AI agents with minimal configuration required.

The Sourcegraph MCP server now supports OAuth authentication using the OAuth 2.0 Dynamic Client Registration Protocol (RFC 7591). This makes using the new Deep Search tool easier than ever.

Previously, connecting an AI agent like Claude Code or Amp to your Sourcegraph MCP server required specifying an access token header or creating an OAuth client for agents that supported specifying a custom client ID. Now, you can connect most AI agents to the Sourcegraph MCP server with one command.

For example, for Amp, you can run:

amp mcp add sg https://sourcegraph.example.com/.api/mcp

For Claude Code, you can run:

claude mcp add --transport http sg https://sourcegraph.example.com/.api/mcp

This works similarly for other MCP-compatible agents.

To enable this feature, set the site setting auth.idpDynamicClientRegistrationEnabled to true. We plan to enable this feature by default in the future.

Specialized tool suites

The MCP server now offers different endpoints with specialized tool suites for different use cases:

/.api/mcp — The full suite of Sourcegraph tools for code search, navigation, and analysis
/.api/mcp/deepsearch — A focused Deep Search subagent

The /.api/mcp/v1 endpoint still exists with the same tool names as before.

Other improvements

New deepsearch_read tool to read existing Deep Search threads
The sg_ prefix has been removed from all MCP tool names, following the conventions adopted by other MCP providers

Refreshed Sourcegraph administration dashboard

The Sourcegraph administration pages are getting a makeover.

We're reworking the Sourcegraph administration pages to make Sourcegraph easier to set up and maintain.

The overview page has been reworked to provide administrators with a quick overview of the instance, whether there are any notifications that need attention, and some recommendations on what they might want to view or set up next.

The sidebar is also now searchable with collapsible headings, making it much easier to find the page you're looking for.

The new site administration overview page

Speaking of notifications, a new notifications widget will alert administrators when something requires attention.

The notification widget informs administrators of any issues with their instance.

This is the first of a set of improvements planned to make setting up and managing Sourcegraph a much more enjoyable experience.

Deep Search entitlements

Per-user Deep Search usage limits can now be applied using entitlements.

Sourcegraph administrators can now set per-user Deep Search usage limits using entitlements: classes of usage limits that can be assigned as a global default, or to specific users. Entitlements can be configured in the Administration → Entitlements page.

Entitlements can be set as a global default: default entitlements are granted to all users without an explicit grant for another entitlement of the same type. Additional entitlements can be created to give specific users varying degress of access. For example, you can set up:

A default daily limit for regular users
A higher weekly limit for lead engineers
Different limits for contractors vs. full-time employees

Each entitlement has a detailed usage view to help administrators understand how users are using the entitlement.

Entitlements currently only support Deep Search, but we may support other features in the future.

GitLab OAuth for Batch Changes

A more secure credentials mechanism for Batch Changes in GitLab.

Sourcegraph now supports OAuth credentials for GitLab in Batch Changes. Previously, only API keys were supported.

Once a Sourcegraph administrator has set up a GitLab app for their instance, and configured this as an authentication provider in Sourcegraph, users can authenticate through this GitLab app in their Batch Change credential settings.

You can migrate from previous API keys to OAuth for Gitlab by deleting the credential from your Batch Change credentials setting, and then create a new credential where you select OAuth.

Support for OAuth with GitHub is already available through GitHub apps. Let us know if you would like to see other code hosts support OAuth for Batch Changes.

The Sourcegraph UI has been completely rewritten in SvelteKit for improved performance and development velocity.
